Sixty Years Later...

A sequel to one of the funniest scenes in the movie second me : the consequences of the dwarves' dinner (the real one with meat, not the green food) in Rivendell. They light a fire by breaking furniture (a chair, a table, I don't know, is it really important?) and break a table, though this was really an accident, still a miracle it didn't break immediately with Bombur sitting on it.

I think they were really poor guests here only because Elrond is an elf (never mind that he contributed to save their lives from the orcs) since they broke nothing in Bag Ends and even cleaned up their mess, granted in a very unusual way.

I wondered what Elrond's reaction might have been after seeing what was left of his furniture and this gave birth to this little comic starring Elrond, Lindir, Gloin and Gimli. Lindir is the elf who welcomes the company in Rivendell and is played by the same actor who also played an extra in the Fellowship and became unexpectedly popular with some fans who nicknamed him Figwit.

The most logical reaction for Elrond after such an event would be to take precautions if he ever had to welcome dwarves again, which happens sixty years after the Hobbit, since some dwarves went to Elrond's Council, among them Gloin and his son Gimli that you can see here with Lindir.

The dwarves were fun to draw, especially Gloin with his elaborated beard, plus I'm quite proud of his look on the last pannel. As you can see the room has been entirely emptied, except for one chair saved just in time by Lindir, a quite ugly chair... I'm sure Elrond will tell him later “You know, you could have let them this one. I never liked it anyway.”

Oh, and in my version the dwarves didn't only destroyed some furniture, they also did something to the bathroom, a little allusion to Bilbo's line about something apparently unspeakable they did to his bathroom. That's why Lindir forbids the dwarves to use the bathroom saying it's being repaired, whether it is a lie or not is up to you, but if it's the truth that would mean they really did something terrible or that elvish plumbers are really lazy if it's still in reparation after sixty years !

PS: I updated a new version after noticed I had forgotten a little something on Elrond's speech balloon, so here's the correction.

Disclaimer : Elrond, Lindir / Figwit, Gloin and Gimli belong to J.R.R. Tolkien and Peter Jackson, I'm just borrowing them.

Lovely detail work and REALLY clean lines. <3 Poor Dwarves, if only elves weren't so long-lived... and spiteful... and in  possession of good memories (if conveniently unavailable bathrooms...)

Thank you ^^.

As for the elves, as much as I prefer the dwarves so far, I can't really blame them for behaving that way here, except maybe for one thing: serving salads to dwarves wasn't a good idea and it backfired pretty quickly since they broke the furniture to cook sausages. My guess is that Elrond deliberately served only the entrée because of what Thorin said during the presentations.

Ahahaha this is the best! I love how he had to go back for the chair. And they can't use the bathroom... hahaha this is awesome!

Well, Lindir is a very careful and dutiful elf apparently. Good to see it made you laugh by the way :D.

Glad you liked it :D! As for Gloin, it was fun to imagine him as a grumpy old dwarf here.

Heehee, yes, I'm sure it was fun! I liked how you changed Gloin's outfit, too, to fit his old age and possibly more wealth. :)

Ah, the outfit. I didn't think of it as a sign of wealth but I like this explanation, but I did think it would suit him as an elderly. Indeed it was based on Balin's outfit, and since he's apparently the oldest member of the company in the movie and the only one wearing long robes, I decided to give Gloin a similar one in the LOTR Timeline.

I guess I thought of it that way because it looked like it had jewels in the belts/strips/whatevers. And that's neat that you based it on Balin's! :)

In fact the "belts" are just a pattern on the fabric, but the little diamond-shaped things on it may be made of pieces of fabric or well, diamond or any other jewel, which would be quite fitting for a dwarf actually.
